| UESA to host the European Young Engineers in Valletta |
![]() Arial view of Valletta It is in this city which has been named by UNESCO as a world heritage city that the University Engineering Students' Association (UESA) will hold its very first EYE conference in October, with the main theme being EYE at Valletta 2007 – Networking Europe through Engineering. The European Young Engineers (EYE) is a European network of young engineering professionals and students representing more than 150.000 members and offers the access to a Europe-wide network by linking the national engineering associations.
Ian Buhagiar, UESA President and the current EYE President commented that this will be a unique opportunity for Malta to showcase itself as a centre for engineering excellence in Europe. Besides industrial visits in leading manufacturing companies, the conference will include a number of high level speakers from global companies operating in Malta. Company visits will include Lufthansa Technik, Malta Shipyards, Malta Freeport and the Simonds Farsons Cisk brewery. We are also aiming of having productive and interactive workshops, during which issue such as mobility, R&D, energy saving & innovation amongst others will be tackled. Finally, the social program is going to be innovative in itself with new events such as the Malta Bus pub crawl, a harbor cruise and an outstanding European night that only UESA knows how to offer.
Vincent Rapa, the Conference Chairperson and an EYE task force member continued that the logistical preparations for the Valletta conference are well underway. The conference program has been finalised and currently we are working round the clock to gather as many sponsors as we can. While a number of corporate partners are already on board, we are now working closely with Government and European entities to support us during this event. As a build up to the EYE conference we are planning to organize an engineering week on campus about a month prior to EYE at Valletta with the main aim being to raise awareness amongst the general public about the EYE network and engineering itself. |
